Sailing in the age of covid-19
keeping everyone healthy while we enjoy sailing
Information for Members and Competitors
Recreational boating remains permitted under the NSW Government Public Health Orders; however, these orders may be reversed if boaters are seen to be disregarding the requirements for social distancing or clubs become a significant source of transmission.
CRSC is pleased to be able to continue sailing, but COVID-19 is still with us and the way we sail needs to continually adapt to the current circumstances. We are all obliged to work together to fight the transmission of the virus, and as such the CRSC’s Covid Ready Team continues to monitor Government and industry reports and recommendations and adapt as necessary.
For accurate information related to Covid and sailing see: https://www.sailingresources.org.au/covid-19/nsw/
Please do not enter the CRSC if;
In the past 14 days, you, or any member of your household:
- has visited a location designated by NSW Health as a “hotspot”, for all designated hotspots see https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates
- has been in any state or Territory from which entry to NSW is restricted, for details see
https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/what-you-can-and-cant-do-under-rules/border-restrictions
- has had a COVID test and are awaiting the result.
- you are a person at risk of serious infection from COVID-19
- have symptoms of the virus (even if mild), see https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/symptoms-and-testing
If you have COVID-19 symptoms (including include a cough, sore/scratchy throat, shortness of breath or fever), the CRSC recommends you follow the NSW Government recommendation and you get tested at a COVID-19 testing clinic. Self-isolate until you get your results.
In order to minimise the possible spread of Covid through the sailing club activities, CRSC advises that spectators will be limited to only those people necessary to run an event.
Before racing (at home)
- Be prepared to GET IN, SAIL, GET OUT
- Any tasks that can be done at home, should be done at home (e.g. boat maintenance, eat before coming to the club, shower)
- Arrive dressed and ready to sail
- CRSC recommend all sailors download the Australian Government COVID-19 contact tracing App (COVIDSafe) and keep it active, and on them always.
- consider having a flu shot
Contact tracing
- In order for NSW health authorities to be able to trace any contacts that may occur through sailing club activities, all members and visitors must provide their contact details in a register before entering the clubhouse. This register will be placed at the entrance of the club house whenever there is an official club activity. Hand sanitiser will be available for use at this entrance point.
- Failure to do so will result in the member being DSQ for any race held on the day.
- Members who attend the club on non-race days must send an email to Sandra Donovan (lnsdonovan@bigpond.com) indicating the date, time, names and contact details of every-one who was in the club house.
